Golden Hind Reopens in Brixham After Sudden Closure

A popular South Devon attraction has reopened its doors following an unexpected closure earlier this year. The Golden Hind in Brixham is once again welcoming visitors, announcing it is now open daily from 10:00am to 4:00pm after what it described as “a slightly longer break than expected.”

The historic full-size replica of Sir Francis Drake’s famous ship invited visitors to “climb aboard, explore the decks, and dive into some swashbuckling history by the harbour,” adding that staff were looking forward to welcoming guests back.

The reopening comes just weeks after uncertainty over the attraction’s future. On February 16, owner Sean Twomey confirmed the ship had closed with immediate effect, saying the decision had not been theirs to make and that there were “higher powers” involved. Twomey, who purchased the vessel in 2018 after visiting with his family, had promised an update on the ship’s future shortly after the closure.

While details surrounding the shutdown have not been fully clarified, the reopening will come as welcome news for locals and tourists alike, with the harbour-side attraction once again adding to the appeal of Brixham’s busy waterfront.
