Town Champion FAQ

Town Champion Programme

Interested? Here are some Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much time will I need to commit?
A: The role is designed to be flexible. We expect our active Champions to aim for roughly one piece of content per month, with a minimum of four articles per year to maintain your status.

Q: What kind of content should I submit?
A: We welcome articles on local news, events, tourism related news, and restaurant reviews. The goal is to showcase what's happening and what's great in your area to visitors. Events must be free for the public to attend (e.g. a church fete), if it is a ticketed event if must be added here. Business to business services or news will not be accepted (e.g. promoting a cleaning company).

Q: Is this a paid role?
A: No. Town Champion is a voluntary position. It's a passion project for community-minded individuals.

Q: Am I the only Champion for my town? Can I write for other publications?
A: You are free to contribute to other websites or blogs, and there may be other Champions in your area.

Application & Selection

Q: Who can apply?
A: You must live or work in the Devon town or area you wish to champion.

Q: What does the application involve?
A: Simply fill out our short online application form here.

Q: Is there a deadline to apply?
A: No. We accept applications on a rolling basis.

Q: What are you looking for in an ideal Champion?
A: We seek people with excellent local knowledge, who are regularly out and about in the community, know local people and businesses, and enjoy writing and sharing stories.

Support & Resources

Q: Is there any training or guidance?
A: Yes. All approved Champions receive a basic editorial style guide.

Q: Will I get a profile or any official tools?
A: Yes. You will receive a dedicated profile page on our website with your photo, bio, and articles. After 12 published articles, you will have access to the website to submit directly.

Q: Will my submissions be edited?
A: Our editorial team may make minor edits for length and clarity. We retain final approval on all published content.

Q: Who do I contact for support?
A: Initially, all support will be via email.

Recognition

Q: How will I be recognised?
A: Every article you write will carry your name, linking to your personal Champion profile (with photo). This establishes you as a recognised local voice.

Q: How will I be recognised as an "official" Champion?
A: You will receive a digital "Official Town Champion" badge for your social media profiles, alongside your profile on our site.

Practical Details

A: You do. You retain the copyright. By submitting, you grant us a non-exclusive license to publish and promote that content on our platforms.

Q: Who is the target audience?
A: While locals are important, our primary focus is providing insider information for tourists and visitors to Devon.

Q: What happens if I can't continue?
A: No problem. We understand that circumstances change. Your published content will remain on the site. You're always welcome to re-join later.

Q: When would I start?
A: New Champions can begin submitting content as soon as they are appointed.
