Visit Devon Recommends: £12 Lunch Deal at Cosy Club Exeter

Visit Devon Recommends: The Must-Try £12 Lunch Deal at Cosy Club Exeter

Stepping into Cosy Club Exeter, you’re immediately struck by the breathtaking décor. Housed in the stunning Halford Wing of the former Southernhay hospital, the high ceilings, eccentric chandeliers, and vintage-luxe aesthetic create an atmosphere that feels both grand and incredibly welcoming. It’s one of the most beautiful spots in the city for a catch-up, though because it was busy when we arrived, it is definitely worth booking a table in advance.

January is the perfect time to slow down, and Cosy Club has made it even more tempting with their "January Lunches, Done Properly" deal. Every Monday to Thursday, 12pm-5pm in January, main courses - including burgers, sandwiches, and "proper plates"—are just £12. If you can’t make it for lunch, they also offer a dinner deal from 5pm where dinner mains are just £14. The offer excludes steaks.

The Service

As soon as we sat down, we were offered a carafe of tap water for the table, a simple gesture that is always welcome and sets a hospitable tone for the meal.

Having been to Cosy Club before, we simply could not visit without ordering the Sharing Monkey Bread to start. Developed exclusively for the restaurant by Baker Tom in Cornwall, this tear-and-share bread is made with Cornish clotted cream and finished with a savoury miso glaze that is completely addictive.

For our mains, we opted for the Spanish Chicken and the Steak Sandwich. The chicken was a butter-roasted, skin-on breast served with sautéed chorizo and baby potatoes in a rich, vibrant tomato and green olive sauce. The steak sandwich featured 28-day dry-aged, grass-fed British rump steak from Aubrey Allen butchers, layered with caramelised onions and Dijon mayo in a warm focaccia, served alongside a pot of peppercorn sauce and crisp fries. To wash it all down, we chose two refreshing mocktails: the Morning Cooler, which was a bright blend of lemon, elderflower, and mint, and the Watermelon & Basil Cooler, a fruity mix of watermelon and pineapple juice finished with soda.

The Bill

The January offer provides fantastic value, bringing the cost of the mains down significantly from their usual prices. With the Monkey Bread at £7.95, two discounted mains at £12.00 each, and two coolers at £5.25 each, the subtotal came to £42.45. After adding a 10% service charge the final total was £46.70.

If you are looking for an excuse to get out of the house this month, this is it. The food remains top-quality, the setting is unmatched in Exeter, and at £12 for a main, it’s a brilliant way to beat the January blues.
